More than just a paint tin, this unique, one-of-a-kind piece is a functional art object designed to bring lasting beauty and conversation to your space. The lid of this paint tin features a vibrant cloisonné design with two shades of green leaves, deep red branches, a black background, and white flowers. It’s meticulously crafted through countless individual firings, transforming copper into a dynamic, multi-layered tapestry of colour and intricate pattern, inspired by the exquisite cloisonné of the Meiji period in Japan.
The rear of the lid forms a shallow, white, enamelled basin, perfectly designed for use as a mixing tray. The tin itself contains 9 spaces for your watercolour or gouache tube paints, coated with a thin but tough layer of epoxy resin to ensure no unwanted reactions between your paint pigments or binders and the copper.
The lid is connected to the tin using a unique riveted hinge system designed to work perfectly for this piece. The lid opens and closes so satisfyingly: smoothly and easily, but with enough resistance to remain in place.
The piece comes with its own hand-stitched leather sleeve, made from recycled leather.
Each of my pieces are meticulously hand-fired with multiple layers of vitreous enamel, a time-honoured process that fuses glass to copper at high temperatures, creating unique and lasting works of art. Every one of my creations is constructed over many stages. Find out more about my process.
